ஆக்கம் எவனோ உயிர்க்கு.

All else is empty noise.

அழுக்காறு அவாவெகுளி இன்னாச்சொல் நான்கும்
இழுக்கா இயன்றது அறம்.

Envy, greed, anger and harsh words
These four eluded is virtue.

கைம்மாறு வேண்டா கடப்பாடு மாரிமாட்டு
என் ஆற்றுங் கொல்லோ உலகு.

Duty is not for reward:
Does the world recompense the rain cloud?
Kural 36
குறள் 36:
அன்றறிவாம் என்னாது அறஞ்செய்க மற்றது
பொன்றுங்கால் பொன்றாத் துணை.
Stanza 36:
Defer not virtue, and you will find in her
The day you die an undying friend.
Meaning:
Do virtues without any delay. Those virtues will be
an undying companion to you at the day of your death.

குறள் 260
கொல்லான் புலாலை மறுத்தானைக் கைகூப்பி
எல்லா உயிருந் தொழும்.
Stanza 260
All living things will fold their hands and bow
To one who refuses meat?
Kural 37
அறத்தாறு இதுவென வேண்டா சிவிகை
பொறுத்தானோடு ஊர்ந்தான் இடை.
Why talk of virtues way? Only behold
The palaquin -bearer and the one who rides.
